Review Guidelines
How reviews work on ProScore — submission, moderation, and dispute processes.
Two Sources, One Standard
ProScore displays two types of reviews on every contractor profile. Both are held to the same content standards and shown together so homeowners get a complete picture.
Google Reviews
Aggregated from public Google Business Profiles. Star ratings, review counts, and individual review text — collected automatically and updated regularly.
ProScore Reviews
Submitted directly by homeowners with verified email addresses. Reviewed by our moderation team before publishing. Includes dimensional ratings across quality, communication, value, timeliness, and cleanliness.
How Submission Works
Every ProScore review goes through a verification and moderation process before it appears on a contractor's profile.
Email Verification
After submitting your review, you receive a verification email. Click the link to confirm your identity. Reviews cannot be published without a verified email.
Moderation Queue
Every submission is reviewed before publishing. We check for policy compliance, factual plausibility, and content quality. Most reviews are processed within 24 hours.
Published with Badges
Approved reviews appear on the contractor's profile with verification badges. Reviews requested by a contractor through their portal receive a "Verified by Provider" badge.
What We Allow
First-hand accounts of hiring and working with a contractor
Factual descriptions of the work performed, including timelines and outcomes
Photos of completed projects
Both positive and negative experiences, provided they are honest
Constructive criticism and specific feedback
Ratings across multiple dimensions (quality, communication, value, timeliness, cleanliness)
What We Don't Allow
Fake reviews or reviews from people who did not use the contractor's services
Paid or incentivized reviews (including exchanges for discounts or free work)
Reviews written by the contractor's employees, family, or competitors
Defamatory statements without factual basis
Off-topic content unrelated to the contractor's services
Personal attacks, threats, or hate speech
Content that violates privacy laws (sharing personal addresses, private phone numbers)
Spam, promotional content, or links to other websites
Our Moderation Process
Every ProScore review submission is reviewed before it goes live. Our goal is to ensure reviews are genuine, policy-compliant, and useful to homeowners making hiring decisions.
Pre-Publish Review
Submissions are checked against our content guidelines before publishing. Reviews that meet our standards go live; those that don't are returned with an explanation.
Contractor Responses
Contractors are notified when a review is published and can post a public response. Responses appear alongside the review on their profile.
Flagging for Re-Review
Contractors can flag a review for re-review with a reason. Flagged reviews are re-evaluated by our team. We do not remove reviews based on the subject's preference alone — only based on policy violations.
Fair to Both Sides
We apply the same standards to every review. Negative reviews are allowed when honest. Positive reviews are allowed when genuine. Our job is policy enforcement, not opinion filtering.
Disputes and Removals
If you believe a ProScore review violates our guidelines, contractors can flag it for re-review directly from their portal. For disputes involving data accuracy, business information, or Google-sourced reviews, use our formal dispute process.
Submit a DisputeWhy This Matters
Honest reviews build trust for everyone. Homeowners get reliable information to make confident hiring decisions. Good contractors get recognized for the quality of their work. When reviews are genuine and moderated fairly, the entire ecosystem benefits — and the contractors who do great work rise to the top.
